Police Find Murdered Oakland Park Man’s Truck

Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have been going door-to-door in an Oakland Park neighborhood looking for information that could lead them to a killer. The Broward Sheriff’s Office says just before midnight Monday friends arrived at a home in the 1300 block of NE 34th Street and found 31-year-old Albert McMurray dead inside the living room.

Hurricane Earl: Watches Now Up For U.S. East Coast

A Hurricane Watch has been posted for the U.S. eastern seaboard, from north of Surf City to Duck, North Carolina to the Virginia-North Carolina border as a very powerful Hurricane Earl churns past the Turks and Caicos islands in the Bahamas. At 11 p.m., the center of Earl was located about 130 miles east-northeast of Grand Turk Island and about 910 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.  

Acevedo Given 8 Years For School Theft

The wife of ousted Monroe County Schools Superintendent Randy Acevedo pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to six felony charges that she stole more than $400 thousand in school district funds.  Monique Acevedo, who was the head of the school district’s adult education program, used a district credit card to buy thousands of dollars in personal items including dog food, patio furniture and a chandelier.

Parkland Coyote Trapper Coming Up Short

Two weeks after the City of Parkland hired a professional trapper to
deal with a coyote problem, they’ve got one in the bag but several more
on the loose.  In the beginning of August, the city manager
contracted the services Pembroke Pines based trapper Edward Batten for
two weeks after getting numerous complaints from residents that their
pets were being attacked.

Miami Makes Large Cuts To Salaries & Pensions

Firefighters poured into Miami Massage Parlors City Hall Tuesday afternoon looking to
convince city commissioners to not cut their salaries. The city
commission voted 5-0 to fill a $100 million budget deficit through
salary cuts, health care changes, and pension reform, instead of laying off one-third of all
city workers.

Mother Accused In Son’s Death Gets House Arrest

The family of the mother accused of manslaughter after her son was found dead in her SUV packed the courtroom Tuesday morning as a judge ordered her to be released on house arrest. Maytee Martinez, 38, will also be allowed to see a psychiatrist and to attend her son’s funeral, Miami Massage Parlors Dade Circuit Court Judge Jorge Cueto said.

Fiona A Weak Tropical Storm Over Atlantic Waters

Tropical Storm Fiona, the sixth named storm of this year’s hurricane
season, is barely maintaining tropical storm strength as it churns
west-northwest behind Hurricane Earl. At 5 p.m. the center of Fiona was located about 270 miles east of the
Leeward Islands. The system had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph was
moving to the west-northwest near 24 mph.
