Gas Prices Drop Slightly, But S. Fla Beats State

The trend at the South Florida pumps has been clear in the past week,
and even though crude oil prices remain high, the price of gasoline
dropped this week by about 2 cents a gallon, reaching $2.80 for  gallon
of regular unleaded, about a dime more than a month ago but just about
what prices were one month ago.

Tomas Weakens. Now A Tropical Storm

Tomas was the season’s 12th hurricane, but no more. Sunday night, the storm continued to weaken and fell below hurricane strength, with sustained winds now down to 65 miles per hour. Out over open waters, there are no watches or advisories, bur forecasters are keeping a close eye on Tomas, which gould intensify if conditions improve.

At Least 20 Greyhounds Found Dead In Panhandle

An animal trainer at a Washington County greyhound track has been
charged with animal cruelty after at least 20 dogs were found dead
Friday. Investigators were tipped by a local greyhound adoption group,
who said trainer Ronald Williams had also brought in underweight dogs
and offered them for adoption.

Fantasy Fest Winds Down In Key West

The 10-day Fantasy Fest costume and mask celebration ended Sunday with a sedate children’s carnival at a local park. Saturday’s late night Fantasy Fest Parade, the festival’s highlight, was more risque and adult-oriented. The procession featured nearly 60 lavish motorized floats, bands and marching groups.
